Nexus One: 80,000 Sold After 1 Month…What Do We Think?

Has Google failed by selling only 80,000 units after the first month or hasn’t they? If you really look at the numbers you’ll see that Iphone sold many many more units after the first month of being released and so did the Droid which also did great. Why hasn’t the Google done the same? You really have to consider the fact that Google is releasing this phone online only which has a very direct effect on their sales. If you are like me…and you probably are, you wouldn’t purchase a phone online before you try at a store. Consumers for the most part want to see how the device feels on their hand, and how well it performs before you commit to the device whether you do it online or right at the store. So I’m pretty sure that many potential buyers will get turn off by the fact that you cannot test drive as it may the phone before you can actually commit to it. Another thing that factors in on the sales of the device is that is not debuting on one of the top 2 networks and that will affect your sales. It is not the same to release your device on a network like Verizon which has millions and millions of users as oppose to T-mobile. Another item that has to factor in is that the device is being release just a couple of months after the Droid was released and who is going to pay a ridiculous fee to get out of a very recent contract to pay another $500 to get a phone that pretty much does the same as you current phone? I wont. So I believe sales for Nexus One are not great but are good considering of the factors mention before and Google should be happy with it. Will it do better in the next couple of months? I think it will specially when it becomes available to Verizon users. Do you think the Google phone sales will improve much once Verizon and Vodafone become available on Spring?
